Recently, members of the Kannapolis Fire Department had the opportunity to participate in a 40-hour ICS All-Hazards Incident Management Team (IMT) Certification Course alongside partners from several surrounding agencies.

This intensive, week-long training focused on the Incident Command System (ICS) and the coordination required to manage large, complex incidents that extend beyond day-to-day emergency responses. Participants trained in key IMT positions including Command, Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance/Administration, learning how to build and manage a scalable incident organization capable of handling disasters of any size.

Throughout the week, employees worked through realistic scenario-based exercises such as large-scale natural disasters, infrastructure failures, and multi-agency emergency events. Teams practiced developing Incident Action Plans (IAPs), operational briefings, resource tracking, and interagency coordination, all while working under the same time pressures and decision-making challenges faced during real incidents.

Training like this strengthens our ability to work seamlessly with partner agencies and ensures we are prepared to support our community during large-scale emergencies and complex incidents.  We appreciate the employees who participated and the agencies that continue to invest in regional preparedness, collaboration, and professional development.
